Mac mini to the rescue

I had to do some work recently on an ANZ website, turning a Flash website into a HTML (xhtml strict/css2/w3c-AAA) site, and had to ensure things worked across all web browsers. So, in the morning on friday I went and got a mac mini. It allowed me to ensure that things work fine on the IE Mac as well as IE PC.

I have also setup a Belkin switch which allows me to easily switch between Windows XP and Mac desktop instantly, with a press of the button or a “ctrl” + “ctrl” + 1 or “ctrl” + “ctrl” + 2 etc.

Works rather well. If I get time shortly I will try and post an article about the setup.

  1. OK the USB Belkin KVM Switch is sorta annoying me that it uses the CTRL button, I use it heaps in Eclipse and it is annoying when it keeps intercepting when you double press it and it mke your PC ignore your next keystroke. I rang Tech support, and will see what they think, the guy on the phone couldn’t tell me how to fix it, nd had to elevate it to the product info group. Lets hope he calls back, took about 50mins on hold to get through to him.

  2. Belkin Techsupport rang back and said to disable the keyboard hotkeys interfering causing problems when you press control (ctrl) etc, you can disable it by plugging the keyboard into the “device1″ USB slot, instead of the nominated keyboard USB slot in the back of the Belkin OmniView 2-Port USB KVM Switch with Audio (F1DS102Uau). That way if you do lots of copy and pastes, or saves etc the belkin will not beep at you and ignore your next keystrokes. You may need to upgrade your firmware by going to the Belkin AU site and clicking support, then searching for the model number, then downloading the firmware appearing with “no keyboard”.
