This is the thing with PHP, its a very flexible and powerful language, and they've been very careful with backwards compatibility, but in doing so there also seems to be a lack of standards and progression. Yes, so hopefully with the appearance of the Zend Framework and Borland's new PHP Development based tools we see some sort of enterprise development!

Very happy for this change. Very Very. We now almost only work with PHP5 syntax. Discontinuing PHP4 will allow the language to evolve properly and put an end to the poorer coding standards. Shame that it will upset a lot of people, but at the rate that the language is being adjusted for enterprise, and Zend's push for finally establishing some decent library/frameworks it is necessary! :-)
